Let’s all enjoy the game!

We have completed the first third of the season 2023.

The ladders are starting to take shape as we continue to play through the rounds, the competitions remain relatively wide open while players continue to show their skills and determination.

Again, I would like to remind all Spectators, Parents, Participants, Coaches, and others about Spectator Etiquette. Over the last couple of weeks, we have witnessed some poor behaviour which does not reflect well on the Clubs or the League. All Clubs within WDFNL are required to abide by the AFL Victoria Country Rules 2023, and the Netball Victoria Codes of Conduct 2023. Poor or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and may lead to other consequences.

Last week was umpire’s week, this is also a reminder the umpires for both football and netball should not be abused for decisions made in a game. Many of the umpires volunteer their time and effort into making our games happen and all players, club officials, and spectators need to respect the role the umpire plays in making the match happen.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be acknowledging the Club Volunteers. Volunteers are the lifeblood of all small community organisations and without them football and netball across our region would not happen. We owe a great deal to these volunteers.  THANK YOU.

The future Rising Stars in both football and netball are also being acknowledged over the next few weeks. It’s great reading about them and what their goals are.

Congratulations on the junior netball players that are going to represent the WDFNL at the Western Association Netball Championships being held here in Warrnambool.  There was an overwhelming number of junior netballers that tried out and I congratulate you all.

Our interleague netball coaches 2023:
13’s Tamara Bull, 15’s Sara Quin, 15’s Res Kim Jamieson and 17’s Rachel Mungean Congratulations on your position and good luck during the netball champs.

Good luck for Round 8

Rising Stars & Club Volunteers

Congratulations to this week’s WDFNL Rising Stars, Raff Harris from Merrivale and Taleisha Ryan from Nirranda.

Also, this week with thanks to league sponsor Beyond Bank we acknowledge two great club volunteers, Brad Gilmour from Kolora-Noorat and South Rovers Darren ‘Wilbur’ Wilde. If you see them around, be sure to give them a pat on the back and say thank you.

ROUND 7 @ The Mack!

This week Russells Creek Club Inc. hosted Nirranda Football Netball Club Inc. for the Indigenous Round with the Welcome to Country, traditional dancers and unveiling of their new netball dress. The stunning design was recently voted the winner of AFL Victoria’s best local football jumper competition. Well done and congratulations.
