Blockbuster round three

The stage is set for a blockbuster round three.

In the football, Merrivale and Nirranda face their biggest tests of the season when they go head-to-head in a grand final rematch under lights.

The Tigers, who have played an extra game than most of the league, haven’t missed a beat since their narrow loss in last year’s decider and will fancy themselves against the three-time reigning premier.

Like their opposition, the Blues are also undefeated, but will be looking to elevate their game after Old Collegians gave them a scare in round two.

Defenders from both sides will have to be at their best, with some of the premier key forwards in the competition taking the field.

Merrivale talls Dylan Weir (24 goals) and Harry Ryan (13 goals) have started the season on fire, while Blues goal-kicker Dylan Parish has 12 goals from his team’s opening two games.

Meanwhile, an improved Warriors will be eyeing its first win of the season against 2024 finalists Dennington.

The Dogs were pushed against South Rovers in round two and will need to find another gear against the Warriors.

In the netball, the Tigers clash with the Blues also looms as the game of the round between two premiership contenders.

The Blues, the reigning premiers, have dominated opponents in their first two games under new coach Lily Eldridge.

The Tigers are also undefeated and are building chemistry with a host of new faces on the court.

Russells Creek and Kolora-Noorat face off, with the winner to bank its first points of the season.

The Creekers haven’t been far off the pace in their two games, with both teams led by new coaches who will be keen to get on the board.

In the remaining fixtures, South Rovers play Timboon Demons and Allansford take on Panmure.
